Bottleneck
Bottleneck consists of: Singer/songwriter Robyn Carrigan (former backup singer with Sarah McLachlan), Singer/songwriter Scott Smith (the ace guitarist in the roots rock powerhouse Bughouse Five.). Bassist Jeremy Holmes and drummer Liam McDonald, in addition to backing up local singers like Herald Nix and Bocephus King, were also known as the red hot rhythm section for the jazz group Loose Acoustic.
Late Nights, Early Mornings features 13 new original songs, all written by Robyn Carrigan and Scott Smith. Recorded by Juno Award winner Steve Dawson, the album is destined to be a success at college radio and CBC. When Bottleneck s debut CD was released in February 2002, few had heard of the group or had any idea what to expect from a band whose members came from such diverse backgrounds. Together, the music these four musicians created turned out to be more than the sum of its parts, and their CD soon generated a buzz in Canada and abroad.
Bottleneck quickly went from being a rumor to one of Vancouver s best loved bands. The CD was uniformly praised in the local, national and international press, and their live shows were so well received that Bottleneck received a nomination for Best Live Act for the Georgia Straight Reader s Choice Awards. CBC radio also fell in love with the band as Bottleneck received airplay on both national programs and regionally broadcast programs across the county, playing nearly every cut on the album. The bands debut also charted at virtually every college radio station in Canada during 2002.
