In Tune - The Daily News
After showing boatloads of promise with his 2006 “Hinterland” full-length debut, Chris “Old Man” Luedecke takes his music to the next level on this first-rate sophomore effort. A 13-track collection that deftly blends elements of folk, bluegrass and roots rock, “Proof of Love” has a fuller, more realized sound than its predecessor — thanks in no small part to the addition of a solid cadre of backing players that includes multi-instrumentalist Steve Dawson (who also produced the album).
While almost every song on “Proof of Love” is a winner, the centerpieces of the record are “Big Group Breakfast,” which reminds me of classic John Denver tunes of the 1970s, and the remarkable “Sad Like a Forest,” already one of my favorite
songs of the year. Additional keepers include “Just Like a River,” “Little Bird,” the traditional “Johnny Has Gone for a
Soldier” and “Sending My Troubles Away.”
