Jenny Whiteley has one of the sweetest voices in Canadian alt-country and she’s got two Juno awards to prove it. Steve Dawson is one of the best practitioners of guitar in the land. The Vancouver-based session man is also one of the respected roots/Americana producers on the continent (which explains why U.S. performers like Kelly Joe Phelps keep coming north to record). When the two of them combine in the studio, they always seem to take each other’s craft to new places. Whiteley takes a retro twang turn on songs like Cold Cold Kisses and Raining In My Heart. But she still maintains her own distinctive voice on haunting tacks like Truth and the Eyes of the Dead.
