They've been together only a few short years after providing vocal backing for Canadian bluesman Jim Byrnes, but the Vancouver-based Sojourners sound as if they've been joined at the lip for years. The three American ex-pats - Will Sanders, Ron Small and leader Marcus Mosely - have a collective 150 years experience, and that's evident on this latest release as they offer seamless vocal give-and-take and harmonies. Throughout, they impress with goose-bump-inducing old-school gospel, retro-soul, doo-wop and gut-bucket blues vocals. Fortunately, the three veteran singers receive effective earthy, rootsy musical backing from a combo led by ace blues slide-guitarist Steve Dawson. With Mike Kalanji's churchy Hammond B3/piano work and Dawson's nasty, greasy blues guitar licks, the Sojourners raise the roof while sounding equally at home in a juke-joint or tent revival. For a soul-stirring musical journey, let these harmonic Sojourners be your guide.
