Review:

This album feels like two projects mashed together. Ten tracks are instrumental, five are songs. The songs are bluesy and urgent. Dawson's dry voice is a nicely expressive instrument in these. His writing is wry and knowing. The instrumentals, an intriguing lot, are mostly tone poems featuring Dawson on what he calls "guitars and guitar like things" plus loops and sonic textures. Some are meditative. Those featuring Dawson's Weissenborn Hawaiian guitar are cool and breezy, others mischievous, sometimes a bit eerie. Fun album that gave me more than I expected.
