Ten months after seeing the light of day during May 2009 on Coventry, Warwickshire imprint Tin Angel Records, Sproule's fifth album Don't Hurry for Heaven has finally surfaced in North American on the Vancouver, BC based Black Hen Music. Appropriate somehow, as Devon was born near Kingston, ON although she spent her growing years on an intentional community in Louisa County, Virginia. These days Devon resides in Charlotteville, Virgina with musician husband Paul Curreri who produced this album.
Don't Hurry for Heaven features eight Sproule composed originals and two covers. Curreri and Sproule share the lead vocal on Sponji Reggae penned by Michael Rose of Black Uhuru, while it's immediately preceded by Bowling Green written by Mason Le Long and Joe Carvell of West Midlands based guitar pop quartet Don't Move! The band is signed to Tin Angel Records.
The quasi-reggae opener and partial road song Ain't That the Way and the final selection A Picture of Us in the Garden reference the Twin Oaks Community, indirectly or directly. The album title song is waltz paced, the ensuing Good to Get Out subjectively a kitchen sink drama. Healthy Parents, Happy Couple is the only Sproule lyric (of eight) sans repetitive reference to the first person singular (or variants thereof). Buy this album and you'll soon notice that fact too.
