Sound And Noise
With numerous albums under her belt Roxanne Potvin has perfected her sound, which is clearly evident by her fan following and 2007 Juno nomination. As Potvin told the crowd during her recent show at the Blue Chair cafe, she hasn’t played with her drummer or bassist in a couple of months, since they completed their last studio album in November. This break was completely unnoticeable- all of them played wonderfully on each song and performed their individual parts exceptionally well. Potvin is both a talented song writer and a unique vocalist. While Potvin joked about being referred to as a “rock” group/singer, the majority of her songs fall into a more “light rock/ folk” category. Most songs were upbeat and easy to follow along to. A few times during her set the crowd moved and clapped along while munching on the delicious food available at the Blue Chair venue. One of the final songs she chose was a cover of “I’m too Sexy” by Right Said Fred. Masterfully transformed into a folk song by adding a touch of guitar and her signature style, Potvin was definitely able to add her own touch of “sexy” to the cover. Overall, a great show and venue to go to relax, enjoy music and possibly take a friend or a date.
